From global recruiter to people-first founder
Before starting Peaple Talent, Karl led a top performing team at a global recruitment firm, placing senior leaders across fintech, SaaS, cloud, and cybersecurity. He earned national recognition and multiple industry awards during his time there, but even as his success grew, so did his frustration with the transactional side of the sector.
“Recruitment had become a numbers game,” he explains. “Targets, CVs, placements. But somewhere in that, we lost sight of the fact that we’re dealing with people’s careers and businesses’ futures. I wanted to bring that sense of purpose back.”
That mindset is now hardwired into Peaple Talent’s culture. The company’s five values – Quality is Everything, Make an Impact, Respect People, Do it Ethically, and Cheer Each Other On aren’t painted on the wall for decoration. They drive every decision, from how consultants are trained to how success is measured.
Karl adds, “We try and add value for both the business and the individual. If we fill a role that changes the direction of a client’s business or a candidate’s life, that’s what matters.”
Building community, not just filling jobs
Alongside the company’s core recruitment work, Karl has built something that few firms ever achieve, a genuine community. Through TekCurious, which has evolved into a wider series including DataCurious and TalentCurious, Peaple Talent has created spaces where professionals can connect, share knowledge, and learn from one another.
What started as a small Bristol meetup has become one of the South West’s most active tech and data networks, with events hosted at companies such as Aviva, Amdaris and Ghyston.
“We’re not there to sell,” Karl says. “We’re there to start conversations. The community side of Peaple Talent gives people a reason to engage with us even when they’re not hiring or job hunting. It’s about curiosity, connection, and helping people grow.”
That same spirit now extends to a growing podcast platform, which gives authentic voices in the industry a place to be heard. Each episode brings together leaders from across tech, data, and renewables to talk openly about their journeys, challenges, and what’s next for the sector.
Peaple for people
Internally, Peaple Talent operates with the same transparency and respect it offers its clients.
From the Value Heroes recognition programme, which celebrates team members who live the company’s values, to Lunch Clubs that reward collaboration, Karl’s leadership style is built around one principle: look after your people, and they’ll look after your clients.
“Recruitment can be a tough environment,” he admits. “But it doesn’t have to be cutthroat. When people feel respected, supported, and proud of the work they do, performance takes care of itself.”
That approach has helped Peaple Talent attract and retain a team of ambitious consultants who buy into something bigger than sales targets – a mission to make recruitment good, purposeful, and ensure people are first.
What’s next for Peaple Talent
As Peaple Talent expands its specialist practice areas from Tech & Data to Renewables, Engineering, and Contracts, it’s focus remains firmly on long term partnerships and meaningful impact. Looking ahead, Karl is clear about his goal: to make Peaple Talent the most respected recruitment partner in the South West.
“Success for me is when clients see us a partner to their business,” he says. “When we’re not just the people they call to fill a job, but the people they trust to shape what comes next.”
