TikTok users in the UK will soon have the option of removing adverts from their feed with a monthly subscription of £4 (€4.60).
This applies to anyone aged 18 and over. The new feature will be rolled out over the coming months.
The reasoning behind the decision is that the video app wants to give its users the choice of whether or not to see advertising. On top of that, it gives users the option not to have their personal data collected for exploitation by advertisers.
The ‘ad blocker’ is not, incidentally, a blocker for influencers who line their pockets with money from advertisers, commercial partners and other types of sponsors.
Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat have been offering this kind of subscription for some time. A rough estimate suggests that somewhere between 2-6% of users in Europe subscribe to these kinds of ad-free versions.
