The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has set two more track records. While it may no longer be the American king of Nürburgring—that honor goes to the Mustang GTD—the Corvette now holds the fastest lap at Sonoma Raceway and NCM Motorsport Park.
The Corvette ZR1X recorded a lap time of 1 minute and 34.17 seconds around Sonoma in early February, beating the previous record of 1 minute and 34.94 seconds set by a ZR1. The Corvette, driven by Corvette Chassis Controls Engineer Cody Bulkley, reached a maximum speed of 148 miles per hour into turn 1.
At National Corvette Museum Motorsport Park, the ZR1X recorded a lap time of 2 minutes and 2.22 seconds, beating a McLaren Senna that set a time of 2 minutes and 2.86 seconds. The Corvette hit 169 mph over its lap, driven by the same vehicle dynamics engineer—Drew Cattell—who piloted the ZR1X around the Nürburgring.
The ZR1X is Chevrolet’s ultimate Corvette. It is a hybrid that features a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine and an electric motor on the front axle. The engine alone produces 1,064 and 828 pound-feet of torque, with the combined output rated at 1,250 horsepower.
It has a top speed of over 230 mph and can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 1.69 seconds. It can run the quarter-mile in 8,99 seconds—and all for $212,195. Watch both record-breaking laps below.
