It’s maybe hard to think of the Veyron as a classic supercar just yet, so contemporary – and so formidably fast – is Bugatti’s icon. But it’s now more than a decade since the last one was made, and more than 20 years since the first Veyron left Molsheim. A supercar from two decades before the Veyron launched was something like a Ferrari 288 GTO, for context. So while it still feels like a hugely influential hypercar (because it is), that classic tag feels more fitting every day. There’s even the factory-backed reimagination to prove the point…
While hundreds of Veyrons were assembled over the years, the level of Bugatti customisation means that many – even the ‘standard’ 16.4s – will be unique. And that’s before getting into the special editions, various Grand Sports, Rembrandt Bugattis, Jean Bugattis, Black Bess – you get the idea. Then there’s the Super Sport. Another 20 per cent more power on top of a thousand, further enhanced aero and chassis, plus the small matter of being the fastest car in the world. While some controversy surrounded the 1,200hp Veyron’s claim to 267.856mph (when isn’t there?), the record stood. And very little has ever gone much faster.
In total, just 48 Super Sports were ever made, or a little more than 10 per cent of the entire Veyron production run. Of those, only five were World Record Edition cars, marked out by orange body detailing, orange wheels and exposed carbon bodywork. Plus a removal of the speed limiter for the full 267mph potential.

And look what we have here: a Veyron with exposed carbon bodywork and orange wheels. It isn’t suggested to be a World Record Edition in the ad, but it would be a surprise if this wasn’t one – especially at £3.5m. Or if it is a homage to those cars, then perhaps the rarest Super Sport of all…
Since first registration in 2013, a little under 1,500 miles have been covered. In fact, 1,447 miles at 267mph isn’t much more than five hours driving, so there’s that. Of course, such a special supercar has been kept in glorious condition. And for a supercar that always seemed to be dismissed as a bit plain to look at, this one absolutely smoulders, slammed down on those special wheels and spoiler towering to the sky.
Amazingly, there are a trio of Bugattis for sale on PH at £3.5m. If the very special Super Sport doesn’t suit, there’s a Chiron and an EB110 also on offer. Never let it be said that there isn’t variety in the classifieds. And never let it be said that the Veyron is anything less than a hypercar hero of the highest order…
