Google has obtained a patent for a system that uses AI to automatically create personalised landing pages for online shops.
The system evaluates existing landing pages of online stores based on key performance indicators such as bounce rate, click-through rate, conversion rate and design quality. If a page performs below a certain threshold, Google’s AI automatically generates an alternative version and presents it to users via search results. Without developer intervention.
Instead of going to the original website, the user sees a link to an AI-generated page. This is located on Google’s domain. This is tailored to the person based on their search history and may include, for example, a chatbot that further guides the purchase process.
This patent marks a shift in how search engines could support e-commerce. Google is expanding its role from ‘traffic controller’ that redirects clicks to party directly involved in the dynamic design and optimisation of the shopping experience. The retailer may see such intervention as a slap on the wrist as its site performs sub-optimally.
The patent was granted in January 2026. Whether and when it will lead to a commercial product is not known.
