Around 300,000 years ago, modern humans (Homo sapiens) emerged. Today, we may be entering a new stage of evolution, not just biologically but consciously.
The idea of the next human, often referred to as Homo luminous, was popularised by Dr Alberto Villoldo, a psychologist and medical anthropologist who studied shamanic traditions in South America. He described Homo luminous as a being who lives with compassion, energetic awareness, and multidimensional consciousness. This is what some, including myself and the late Dolores Cannon, call The New World.
Humans are still evolving. Science shows that we are developing resistance to diseases and we continue to see changes in brain structure and social cognition. But this next phase may represent something deeper – a transformation in how we perceive ourselves, others, and reality itself.
Consciousness and the science of possibility
Meditation, psychedelics such as psilocybin and ayahuasca, and other altered states have been shown in studies to give humans access to expansive states of consciousness. These are often linked to compassion, unity, and self-transcendence. Such findings suggest we may be far more capable than we once believed.
In The Biology of Belief (2005), Dr Bruce Lipton explains that “genes are not destiny.” His research shows how perception and environment directly influence gene expression. This means that as we heal trauma, reconnect with the inner child, and move away from survival-based thinking, we begin to access new layers of human potential.
Similarly, psychologist Dr Gary Flint found that resolving emotional trauma and transforming limiting beliefs can lead not only to psychological healing but also to a more spiritually integrated self.
Is the path already unfolding?
How do we know if we are stepping into the New World?
It is not a place we travel to. It is a shift in consciousness. This shift often emerges quietly, without fanfare. A subtle inner knowing that something has changed. That the old routines, habits, and beliefs no longer seem to fit.
Everyone experiences it differently, shaped by personal history and perception. But five common signs include:
- A sense of disconnection from familiar aspects of life
- Changes in diet, habits, or social patterns that no longer feel aligned
- Heightened sensitivity to energy or emotion
- Questioning long-held beliefs or systems
- Feeling as though you are living between two realities: one familiar, one emerging
I first sensed this shift during a shamanic healing client session in 2022. Without planning to, I found myself describing a different experience of reality, one that existed beyond stress, fear, and disconnection. In the days that followed, I discovered that many thinkers, teachers, and researchers had been exploring similar ideas for years. They spoke of a collective evolution, a rising awareness that reframes how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.
A deep inner calling
This awakening can feel isolating, especially if those close to us are not having similar experiences. But it is important to know you are not alone. Many people are sensing that something profound is unfolding – a quiet movement toward a more conscious, balanced, and heart-centred way of living.
You may feel as though you can no longer continue with your old way of life. Things that once felt normal may now feel unbearable. It can be disorienting or even frightening, especially when parts of us resist change in the name of comfort and safety. But as the New World unfolds, it often brings with it a deep inner sense of being called, as though something greater than ourselves is offering quiet guidance.
Nervous system and the return to presence
One of the most meaningful changes I have experienced is in how I relate to stress and my nervous system. Historically, our nervous systems evolved to manage short bursts of danger or challenge. But today’s world rarely provides opportunities for rest and integration.
As we begin to slow down and engage in practices like mindfulness, breathwork, movement, prayer, or stillness, we may begin to notice a softening. A calming. A return to the body, mind, and spirit. These moments of presence bring clarity, peace, and a sense of wholeness beneath the surface noise.
This is not a competition
This shift is not about being more spiritual, evolved, or enlightened. If anything, it is the opposite. The New World invites us to live in deeper alignment with our own truth and rhythm. It is not a race.
Not everyone will feel called to this path, and accepting that can be difficult, especially when it concerns people we love. For a long time, I believed I could bring everyone with me. I have since come to understand that every soul has its own timing, and honouring that is part of this new way of being. The New World welcomes, trusts, and allows.
Grounding in the body
This journey also calls us to stay grounded. To care for the body not just in principle but in practice; through nourishing food, intentional movement, walking barefoot on the earth, deep sleep, and full breaths.
These are not indulgences. They are essential acts of reverence that support this unfolding. The body is not separate from our evolution. It is the sacred vessel that carries the soul into the New World.
We are not meant to do this alone
Perhaps most importantly, we are not meant to walk this path in isolation. This evolution, as tender and powerful as it is, blossoms through connection. Whether through therapy, spiritual practice, community, or quiet shared presence, we find strength in the company of others navigating similar ground.
This is not a revolution. There is nothing to fight. It is an evolution: a gentle, luminous transformation that begins within and expands outward.
Not everyone will hear the call. But for those who do, a more aligned, loving, and soul-led way of life is already taking shape. The New World is not something we must wait for. It is already here, unfolding in every moment we choose presence, compassion, and truth.
Inga Lamb was born on the Orkney Islands, where her home stood on the ancient Ness of Brodgar – the sacred path between life and death. In 2020, she trained in Shamanism and has since co-created Empoa ∞ World, a platform for self-development and discovering the deeper truths of life.
