
Most EDC folding knives land somewhere on a spectrum between knives you don’t trust and knives you’re afraid to actually use. The overbuilt ones feel like carrying a statement rather than a tool. Its pitch isn’t about stacking features. It’s about choosing the right materials for the three things a folding knife actually needs: a blade that holds its edge, a frame that doesn’t flex, and a grip that stays controlled when your hands are wet or you’re wearing gloves in the cold. MIH stripped away everything else and spent months, by their account, refining what remained. That kind of restraint is either a genuinely smart engineering decision or a very good story, and what’s compelling is that the rest of the campaign makes a case that it’s both.
You notice it in how they talk about materials: no vague durability language, just specific alloys with specific reasons behind each choice. The M390 blade steel is a good example. In a standardized CATRA test it cuts through 959mm of cardboard before dulling. Most budget stainless options top out around 200mm. That’s the kind of data that does more work than a tagline.
MIH says this is their fourth folding knife, one for each year since 2023, and that they’ve shipped thousands of titanium tools to backers around the world. On a crowdfunding platform, that track record matters more than almost anything else in the pitch. It means there’s a pattern to evaluate, not just a prototype to take on faith.

The Steel Choice at the Center of It
GraphiX is available in two blade steel options: M390 and D2. The M390 version is the premium pick, and the campaign is unusually specific about what that means in practice. The steel carries 1.9% carbon for hardness, 20% chromium for corrosion resistance, and 4% vanadium for edge retention. Those numbers explain why the CATRA result isn’t a fluke. It’s a composition built specifically to hold an edge longer, not just to pass a spec sheet.
The D2 option is positioned for buyers who want rugged performance at a more accessible price. The campaign describes it as tough and dependable, and frames it as a genuine choice rather than a consolation option.
A Frame That Takes the Carry Seriously
The handle frame is machined from Grade 5 titanium, which the campaign describes as the same material trusted in aerospace, surgical implants, and high-performance racing. The case for it isn’t aesthetic, though the campaign acknowledges that helps too. It’s that nothing else at this weight level balances strength with corrosion resistance the way Grade 5 does for something that lives in a pocket every day.
Carbon fiber scales sit over the titanium frame and add grip texture to the carry. Each scale shows a unique weave pattern, so no two GraphiX knives come out exactly alike. The scales are available in three colors: Red Carbon ships as the default, with Blue Carbon and Black Carbon available as add-ons. The frame geometry follows the curve of the palm, and the textured scales are specifically designed to maintain control with wet hands or gloves.

What Happens Inside When You Open It
The opening mechanism runs on precision ceramic bearings paired with phosphor bronze components that handle load distribution and reduce friction over time. The campaign’s argument for this combination is less about feel in the moment and more about what doesn’t happen after extended use: Steel bearings can rust. Ceramic doesn’t. Plastic washers wear down. Phosphor bronze doesn’t.
A strong detent holds the blade in the closed position during carry to prevent accidental deployment. Once opened, the lock face and pivot are precision-machined to zero tolerance.
MIH says this eliminates lateral movement and blade play entirely once the blade is fully deployed, which is a separate engineering challenge from getting the action smooth in the first place. At the base of the blade, subtle jimping is machined in to lock the index finger in place for more controlled work.
The Small Details That Change the Carry
The pocket clip is CNC-milled directly into the titanium frame rather than attached as a separate piece. It sits flush with no snag points, follows the curve of the handle rather than running straight across it, and is machined from spring-grade titanium so it holds tension without loosening over time.
On each side of the handle, the campaign has machined precision tritium slots measuring 1.5x6mm. These accommodate self-illuminating tritium vials as optional additions, or luminous vials that charge from light exposure and glow in darkness. Buyers can add either through the campaign or leave the slots empty without affecting the profile. A lanyard hole is also included for those who prefer a cord attachment or want to add a personal touch with paracord.

Every GraphiX ships with a Grade 5 titanium frame, Red Carbon fiber inlay by default, and the buyer’s choice of M390 or D2 blade. Worldwide shipping is included with no additional fees. Personalization options cover custom engraving, carbon fiber inlay color, vial type, and an optional lanyard. Early-bird and bundle tiers are available through the campaign, with better pricing for backers who pledge sooner or in larger quantities.
