Many of London’s royal parks are still lit by gas lamp, giving out a beautiful warm glow at night.
I snapped some of them as I walked through the parks last night.
London can claim to be the first city in the world to be lit by gas, with the first recorded demonstration taking place on Pall Mall in 1807.
Two decades later, public spaces all across the country were lit by gas, before being slowly replaced by electricity.
Incredibly, there are still around 1,300 working gas lamps in London, with around 270 in Westminster, half of which are currently listed.
