The sacred Malappuram Thrikalyanam ceremony at Sreevaraham Mukkolaikkal Bhagavathi Temple will be held on March 17, 2026 (Tuesday) at 9:00 PM as part of the annual temple festival. This ritual, known as Malappuram, is one of the most important and auspicious ceremonies conducted during the third day of the festival and holds special spiritual significance for devotees.
The Malappuram ceremony symbolizes the divine wedding of the Goddess and is based on the traditional Thottam Pattu recitations inspired by the story of Kannaki and Kovalan described in ancient devotional traditions. During the ritual, the singers perform the Malappuram song in front of the decorated green pandal after the evening Deeparadhana. The performers offer prayers to the Goddess and begin the ceremonial singing, while devotees gather around the pandal to listen to the sacred narration with devotion.
At the climax of the ritual, when the verse describing the moment of placing the garland is sung for the seventh time, a jasmine garland is ceremonially placed on the deity amidst Kurava chants and traditional temple instruments. This ritual represents the divine marriage of the Goddess and is believed to bring marital prosperity, long married life, family happiness, and blessings of the Goddess to devotees who witness the ceremony.
During the occasion, devotees also offer Palpayasam and sweet prasadam, which are distributed among the devotees as part of the sacred celebration. The Malappuram Thrikalyanam at Sreevaraham Mukkolaikkal Bhagavathi Temple is considered highly auspicious and attracts a large number of devotees, especially women, who participate in the ritual seeking Mangalyabhagyam and family prosperity.
