Oracle has responded to concerns about possible delays in its collaboration with OpenAI, following a report suggesting that completion of the data centres would be pushed back to 2028 due to labour and materials shortages. The company insisted that all schedules and milestones were being met and stressed its cooperation with OpenAI in selecting the site and setting delivery timelines.

Although Oracle did not specify a timeline for activating the cloud infrastructure for OpenAI, it reiterated the strong relationship between the two companies. The partnership is a relatively new venture for Oracle, which has traditionally been known for its database software and enterprise applications. Cloud infrastructure now makes a significant contribution to Oracle’s revenues, albeit modest compared with giants such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google.

OpenAI is actively seeking collaboration with other technology suppliers to meet its anticipated capacity needs. In September, Nvidia announced a memorandum of understanding to supply at least 10 gigawatts of equipment to OpenAI, with the first phase planned for late 2026. However, no definitive agreement has yet been concluded.

OpenAI relies on Nvidia GPUs for products such as ChatGPT. The company is also exploring the possibility of designing custom chips in partnership with Broadcom. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan recently presented a timeline for the OpenAI project, indicating rollout between 2027 and 2029. He emphasised that the agreement was an alignment of objectives with a key customer, but played down any significant contribution in 2026. OpenAI declined to comment on these developments.
