The GMC could keep its existing right to appeal decisions by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) and gain new powers to challenge interim rulings under plans consulted on by the government – in a major U-turn from proposals backed after the landmark Bawa-Garba case just eight years ago.
