A Nighttime Street Photoshoot in Soho, London

Noir & Neon: A Nighttime Street Photoshoot in Soho, London

Some favourite photos from a recent night time photoshoot in Soho, London. My client wanted noir & neon street style images to use for his online, social media and promotional activities.

Soho after dark has a completely different energy. Neon signage, theatre lights, passing traffic and narrow backstreets create natural contrast, saturated colour and deep shadow. The location itself becomes part of the frame, adding atmosphere without the need to construct it artificially.

The focus of the shoot was to work with the existing light across the streets around Soho and Piccadilly, moving through different pockets of colour and shadow to build a varied set of images while keeping the mood consistent.

I used a Lumix S1 with the Panasonic 24–105mm and Lumix GX9 with the Panasonic 20mm pancake lens for the nighttime images. The 24–105mm allowed flexibility for tighter portrait framing, while the 20mm worked well for wider shots that pulled more of the surrounding street into view.

Photos were edited in Adobe Lightroom. Post-production focused on balancing the intensity of neon highlights, deepening contrast and refining colour tones while keeping skin natural. A selection were also converted to black and white to lean further into the noir aesthetic.

The final images reflect the original brief — moody, noir, neon-lit street portraits shaped by Soho’s night atmosphere and existing city light.
