New Book Explores the A to Z of Happiness

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A new book, The Alphabet of Happiness by Klaudia Mitura, has been released by O-Books, offering readers a practical guide to creating more happiness at work, in relationships, and in everyday life.

Mitura, who began exploring happiness during the Covid pandemic when she lost her job, postponed her wedding, and faced months of illness, explains that her search for joy started with small science-based habits. “In my despair and helplessness, I remember having this intense craving for… happiness. I knew I could not make any of my circumstances disappear, but I just wanted to feel a little bit happy, even for a few minutes a day,” she writes.

The book builds on a personal experiment Mitura carried out with her friend Kitty, which later became The Happiness Challenge podcast. Together, they tested happiness-boosting habits weekly and shared their experiences publicly.

Structured from A to Z, each chapter focuses on a key principle such as Acceptance, Boundaries, Courage, Gratitude, Play, and Zest. Mitura combines her own stories with psychological research and expert interviews. “Happiness is not only about ‘feeling good’ here or there but a broader ‘experience of joy, contentment, or positive well-being, combined with a sense that one’s life is good, meaningful, and worthwhile,’” she explains in the introduction

The book has already drawn praise from leading figures in psychology and well-being. Dr Raj Raghunathan, author of If You’re So Smart, Why Aren’t You Happy?, described it as “delightful,” adding, “Klaudia will convince you that learning to be happy is as easy as A, B, C!” Shawn Achor, bestselling author of The Happiness Advantage, said, “Whether you are looking for scientific insights into how happiness works or practical ways to boost joy in your daily life, this book offers a clear path forward.”

Robin Dunbar, author of Friends: Understanding the Power of Our Most Important Relationships, highlighted its focus on connection: “An engaging exploration of the most important things we can ever have – friendships and happiness.”

Other endorsements stress its accessibility. Tanith Carey, psychology author, praised Mitura’s blend of research and lived experience: “There’s so much written about happiness these days – but Klaudia has done a beautiful job of organising the most essential findings into this wonderful A–Z guide.”

Sarita Godber, director of people and culture at the Science Museum Group, added: “A much-needed reminder not to be a bystander in our own state of happiness.” Caroline Pankhurst, founder of Be Braver, described it as “a gift of a book,” while Dr Vikki Barnes, author of Free Happiness, called it “accessible” and relatable.

Gemma Islip, also of the Science Museum Group, said: “This book will change how you approach your day-to-day life and is filled with practical ideas and tips.”

Mitura dedicates the work “to all happiness seekers,” noting that happiness “is not something to be found, but something to be created.”

The Alphabet of Happiness is available now through O-Books and Collective Ink, in both print and ebook edition.
