It’s always good to see community organizations exercise fiscal responsibility when it comes to planning and making major purchases.
This was the approach taken by Madison Public Library when it recently acquired a new bookmobile.
The library bought a 33-foot Winnebago to replace a 2007 bookmobile donated in 2018 by the Geauga County Public Library, The News-Herald’s Bill DeBus reported.
In December of 2021, the Madison Public Library Board voted to establish a capital fund to buy a new bookmobile, a news release stated. Through the careful management of funds by the fiscal officer and library director and guidance from the board, they were able to save enough to complete the purchase of a new vehicle in July.
“We are thrilled to continue to support the Madison community with a new bookmobile,” said library Director DeeAnna Culbertson. “Our board is very committed to making library services available to everyone in Madison, especially those who are not able to come to the library on their own.”
The new vehicle, which cost $335,878, “is truly a mobile branch with both materials and indoor and outdoor programming space,” Culbertson said.
The News-Herald commends the library for wisely saving up money so it could buy the bookmobile without taking out a loan.
So the Madison community can be proud that it has a library with a nice, new bookmobile, along with a commitment to being good stewards of taxpayers’ money.
