Andrew Bosworth, Meta
Andrew Bosworth, chief technology officer at Meta Platforms, announced on Wednesday during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos that the company’s new AI lab has made significant progress. The team, Meta Superintelligence Labs, which was set up last year, delivered its first notable AI models internally this month.
Although earlier reports indicated that Meta was developing a text-based AI model called Avocado for a first-quarter release, along with an image- and video-focused model called Mango, Bosworth did not specify which models had been delivered internally.
Meta’s efforts in the field of AI are being closely watched, as the company has undergone a major shake-up in its AI leadership. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has set up a new lab and has aggressively recruited talent with high salaries in order to gain an edge in the competitive AI landscape.
Meta faced criticism over the performance of its Llama 4 model, which lagged behind competitors such as Google. Bosworth stressed that the technology is still under development and that there is still a great deal of work to be done after training in order to make it usable both internally and for consumers. Nevertheless, he expressed optimism about Meta’s long-term AI strategy, stating that the company’s major investments will start to deliver positive results from 2025 onward.
