UAE launches urgent Hurricane Melissa support for Caribbean nations

The UAE has launched an urgent humanitarian mission to support communities in Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba affected by Hurricane Melissa, which caused severe damage across the Caribbean.

Acting through the UAE Aid Agency and in coordination with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), the UAE has dispatched emergency relief supplies, including essential food items and critical shelter materials, to assist those impacted by the hurricane.

The mission also includes infrastructure support to help ensure a rapid recovery and restore stability in affected regions.

UAE humanitarian commitment

The UAE’s rapid action reflects its longstanding humanitarian values and commitment to global solidarity, particularly during times of crisis.

This initiative underscores the nation’s ongoing efforts to stand with communities affected by natural disasters, conflicts, and emergencies around the world.

Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, said the UAE remains dedicated to its global humanitarian mission, emphasising the importance of immediate action in disaster response and recovery efforts.

He noted that the UAE prioritises providing comprehensive assistance to affected populations — ensuring access to food, medicine, clothing, and shelter — to enable early recovery and help restore normalcy.

Caribbean relief

Dr. Al Ameri highlighted the UAE’s proactive role in relief and rapid response programmes addressing the impacts of natural, environmental, and health-related disasters, as well as crises arising from wars and conflicts.

He confirmed that the UAE Aid Agency, in close coordination with CDEMA, is delivering essential relief supplies, shelter materials, and infrastructure support to mitigate the effects of Hurricane Melissa on communities in Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba.

This partnership forms part of the UAE’s broader international strategy to strengthen multilateral cooperation and deliver timely, effective humanitarian relief wherever it is most needed.
