Sales figures show renewed enthusiasm for iPhones

Chinese sales back 14% sales bump on release

The initial sales figures for the iPhone 17 series show a strong performance compared to last year’s iPhone 16 models. According to Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 17 outperformed its predecessor by 14% in its first 10 days on major markets such as the US and China. This early success points to a positive demand for the new generation of iPhones.

One key factor driving this growth is the strong performance of the standard iPhone 17, especially in China. Counterpoint attributes this to a favorable balance between price and upgrades, making it a very attractive option for consumers. The main upgrades are a new chip, an improved display, more base storage, and an enhanced front-facing camera.

In the United States, sales of the iPhone 17 Pro Max are surpassing those of its predecessor. This trend is being driven by carriers offering larger discounts on the top model. These increased subsidies are aimed at locking in customers over the long term through extensive financing plans. This strategy encourages consumers to choose the flagship iPhone 17 Pro Max, thereby strengthening Apple’s position in the premium smartphone market.

Although the iPhone Air is also performing well and outpacing last year’s iPhone 16 Plus sales, its launch in China has been delayed by carrier approval processes. This delay, combined with price considerations compared to the standard iPhone 17, may limit initial sales volumes on the Chinese market.
