It was a recent promotional event for Adidas, with the dome’s LEDs projecting every FIFA World Cup ball since 1970. Spinning away, through the years, against the Las Vegas skyline, the leather balls look amazing. Check it out below.
All to what end? Well, it was a (very) big reveal of the “Trionda”, which is the “Official Match Ball of the 2026 FIFA World Cup”.
The Sphere
Of course, nothing beats the 1970 era “black ad white” version! (The Adidas Telstar, as I now know it.)
Big Sky Camera
By the way, if you are more interested in the tech than the football, I have written about The Sphere before.
Check out this Gadget-in-Extremis piece – Sphere Entertainment’s Big Sky camera system. It takes a look at the venue’s Big Sky camera system. And how STMicroelectronics makes the 316Mpixel 18K image sensor at its heart…
The die measures 99 x 83mm (82.4cm2) – four fit onto a 300mm wafer (right) – and it can capture images at 120frame/s and transfer data at 60Gbyte/s.
