New analysis from Campbells Meat, a leading Scottish online butcher, suggests the carnivore diet could become one of the UK’s top food trends in 2026. Online searches for the diet have risen by 44% in the past year, reflecting growing curiosity about this animal-based eating plan. The diet, which excludes most plant-based foods and centres almost entirely on animal products, is also gaining traction on social media, with 177,500 TikTok posts showcasing its appeal among influencers and their followers.
Followers primarily consume meat such as beef, pork, lamb, and game, alongside fish and seafood including salmon, trout, hake, and sea bass. Eggs and certain dairy products like cheese and butter are also permitted. Foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and processed items not derived from animals are excluded. Adherents eliminate carbohydrates, relying instead on fat and protein for energy. Proponents point to benefits including weight loss, reduced inflammation, mental clarity, and simplified digestion, although nutrition experts warn of risks such as nutrient deficiencies and long-term effects on heart and kidney health if the diet is not carefully managed.
A spokesperson from Campbells Meat, which has monitored the diet’s rise, stressed the value of variety for those following it. “For those following the carnivore diet, variety is key. Try exploring different cuts of beef, lamb, or game meats, and experiment with cooking methods such as grilling, slow-cooking, or pan-searing to bring out unique flavours. Adding seafood like salmon, trout, hake or sea bass can also provide healthy fats while keeping meals interesting. Simple techniques like marinating or using spices can transform basic cuts into delicious, satisfying dishes that make the diet more enjoyable,” they said.
The spokesperson also advised caution, adding: “It’s important to remember that a balanced diet traditionally includes all food groups, from fruits and vegetables to grains and proteins. Anyone considering a restrictive plan like the carnivore diet should conduct thorough research, seek professional guidance where possible, and make sure it’s the right choice for their long-term health.”
Campbells Meat, based in Linlithgow, Scotland, has been family-run since 1910, when Thomas Campbell began his work as a butcher. Now in its fourth generation, the company remains committed to quality, freshness, and traditional butchery skills. It offers beef, pork, salmon, and deli products, with a subscription box service for home delivery. All meat is hand-cut daily, and traceability ensures high welfare standards. The company’s focus on Scottish produce and ethical farming has earned it recognition as a trusted supplier across the UK.
The carnivore diet’s rise mirrors wider interest in high-protein, low-carb plans such as keto, though its stricter rules set it apart. Social media continues to amplify its reach, with influencers posting recipes and testimonials. While the diet appeals to younger consumers looking to experiment with new eating styles, experts emphasise that its long-term health effects remain uncertain.
